Photo Essay: A Spring Tour of Midtown, New York City

Wait, before you stick your nose up at Midtown Manhattan, stay with me for a moment. People seem to love New York City but love to hate on Midtown. And I get it, there’s Times Square and more people on one block then the entire population of many towns. However, you can’t ignore Midtown Manhattan if you want to truly experience New York City, since it’s home to some of the most inherently NYC things to see and do, from Central Park to the Flatiron Building to Bryant Park to the High Line and a helluva lot more. So this week, upon arriving in New York City, and finding that I didn’t have a single good photo of Manhattan, I hit to the streets, starting in Midtown, and thanks to blooming cherry blossoms and blue skies, it hasn’t disappointed.

It’s been nearly two years since I’ve been to New York City. Crazy, I know. And while the last few years has seen me visit it to spend time with friends and eat and drink my way around Manhattan, this time I was resolved to be a tourist. And I’ve done just that. I’ve made the Fifty NYC and The Benjamin Hotel (conveniently located on the same block) my base and each morning woken up and hit a different corner of Midtown with my DSLR in one hand and bagel with lox in another.

I’ve been documenting my last week in Midtown Manhattan on my Instagram, as well as doing an Instagram takeover for my friends at Trippy.com. Find some of the highlights of this week in a spring tour of Midtown Manhattan Below.

Central Park Manhattan Spring

Spring in full effect at Central Park

Central Park in the Spring

A bit un-American not to post cherry blossoms if I’m going to talk about spring (as seen in Central Park).

Central Park Bridge

I only had to sit on the ground for 20 minutes to wait for there to be (almost) no one in this shot of the Manhattan skyline from Central Park.

Central Park Manhattan

And then a dude sitting right below me by the water at Central Park proposed to his girl.

Central Park Manhattan Skyline

As if there aren’t enough skyline views of Manhattan from Central Park.

Okay, one more.

Cupcakes Midtown Manhattan

You guys, it’s a cookie on top of and inside a cupcake! As seen (and consumed) from Fifty NYC.

Bryant Park, Midtown, Manhattan

Quite possibly my favorite park in Manhattan, Bryant Park.

Rockefeller Center Top of the Rock Observation Deck

30 Rock. I didn’t see Tracy Jordan unfortunately.

Rockefeller Center Midtown, Manhattan

What I affectionately like to call, The Rock.

Top of the Rock Rockefeller Center

Is there any denying that Top of the Rock is the best view of New York City?

Rockefeller Center Top of the Rock

One of many unobstructed views 70 floors up.

Flatiron Building Manhattan

The Flatiron

Momofuku Milk Bar

You guys, it’s cereal milk ice cream with corn flak crunch on top. That means it’s healthy, right?!

Grand Central Terminal Midtown Manhattan

I came all the way to Grand Central Terminal just to eat Shake Shack…okay, and to take some photos.

Employees Only New York City speakeasy

Because spring cocktails. This from New York City speakeasy, Employees Only.
